As of 2024, Canada now issues Apostille certificates for documents being used in countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention.

This new, streamlined process replaces the older two-step system of:

  1. Authentication by Global Affairs Canada

  2. Legalization by a foreign embassy or consulate

✔️ It’s faster, simpler, and more widely accepted — but only for countries that are part of the Hague Convention.

For countries not in the Hague Convention, the traditional Authentication and Legalization process is still required.
